How to play MemeMyChess

Play a turn-based chess game, invite a friend, or bring a PGN back to the board with original meme reactions.

Play the bot

On the home page, choose Play the bot, select your side and a strength setting, then start a game. Choose a piece and one of the lit legal squares to make your move. The board responds as you move, then the bot takes its turn. Chess remains turn-based.

The bot offers Casual and Club settings. This game flow does not provide engine evaluation scores or blunder ratings; the meme reactions are part of the presentation, not a measure of move quality.

Invite a friend

Choose Invite a friend, pick your side and reaction theme, and create a room. Copy the invite link and send it to the person you want to play. They choose their own theme and take the open side. Both players see the same board and legal moves.

Classic, Deadpan (low-key), and Chaos (high-energy) change the reactions each player sees and hears. They do not change the moves or result. Anyone holding an unused invite link can claim its open seat, so share it only with your intended opponent.

Import and replay a PGN

Open Replay, paste a PGN or choose a PGN file, then read it and select a game. Prepare the replay to see the moves with reactions, props, and board sounds. Use the player controls to pause, seek, or change sound.

Bot and friend games can be downloaded as PGN or opened directly in Replay. From a prepared replay, choose Make a share link to let anyone with that link watch it.

Saved games and sharing

Private live games are tied to your browser session. Keep using the same browser profile and allow its site data to remain if you want to restore a recent game. Clearing the session cookie or saved site data can prevent restoration; download the PGN if you want a portable copy.

A replay share link is different: anyone with the link can watch that replay. Shared pages are marked not to appear in search results, but that marker is not access control. Only make a share link when you are comfortable sharing the replay with its recipients.
